Caves

Within the W half of the interior of a cashel (GA113-147----). This drystone-built Man-made underground passage (L >15.4m) is roughly T-shaped in plan. It consists of two chambers and a creep. The 1st chamber (L 7.8m; Wth 1.6m; H 1.3m) runs WSW-ENE. Access is gained at its ENE end. Foundation stones extending beyond the access point suggest that the chamber extended further to the ENE. A blocked-up creep (L 0.7m; Wth 0.6m; H 0.45m) extends from near the W end of its S side-wall. This most likely leads to the 2nd chamber (L 7.8m; Wth 1.6m; H 1.85) which runs NW-SE. Access to this chamber is now gained through a gap in the roof. The foundations of a rectangular house site (GA113-147002-) overlie the SE corner of the 1st chamber.
