What is recorded here

Clear water and quiet pressure belong in caves, but this is a man-made underground passage inside a Galway rath. It had a narrow entrance and a low earthen bank beside it, then a barn and levelled ground took the place. What remains is a forgotten shape under an ordinary farm, perhaps still holding the memory of the hand that cut it.

Centrally located within a rath (GA113-013002-). When initially visited by the Survey in 1982 this Man-made underground passage was blocked up. Its entrance (Wth 3.8m; H 0.3m) was incorporated in the NW end of a low earthen bank which ran NW-SE through the interior of the monument. When revisited in 1984 most of this monument had been levelled and a barn was erected within the W half of the interior. No visible surface trace of the Man-made underground passage survived.
