Cave

Located in the SW quadrant of a cashel (MA073-030001-). Indicated as 'Cave' on the 1838 and 1919 OS 6-inch maps. A collapsed Man-made underground passage passage or chamber is evident as a sunken area (1.8m E-W; 1m N-S; D 0.70m) defined on the N side by drystone walling. A single lintel remains in situ and an adjacent stone slab appears to be a displaced lintel. At the N end of the sunken area, a surface linear feature, consisting of disturbed stony ground, extends for c. 6m to ENE towards two possible houses (MA073-030002-; MA073-030005-), and may indicate a continuation of the Man-made underground passage. A large slab, obliquely protruding from a slight surface hollow, c. 3m to N of the sunken area, may also be part of the Man-made underground passage.
