Ballymaglancy Cave is a 726-metre limestone passage west of Cong where lesser horseshoe bats still roost in darkness. The name preserves the Clancy or Glancy family townland, while Pollwalter points to a forgotten mill pond beside the entrance. People may have followed water into that black tunnel long before maps existed, listening for bat cries instead of speaking above them.

A 'Cave' is noted within the rath (GA106-081----) on the 1933 edition of the OS 6-inch map. No visible surface trace of it survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 4 January 2018
