What is recorded here

One chamber holds a ringfort, the other a cave. The first belongs to the public, the second to a private landlord who still refuses entry. That boundary is the whole story: a whole county can map, measure and publish one half of the same ground, while the other half stays closed because ownership, not evidence, draws the line.
In ringfort (CO041-01901-). Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as 'Cave' at N perimeter of site. Second Man-made underground passage (CO041-01902-) in interior of fort. Permission to inspect site refused. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
