Catholic Church of the Annunciation

In Coolclogh. Rectangular church (long axis NE-SW), SW and SE walls of coursed ashlar limestone, other walls rendered. Five pointed window opes with hood mouldings on each side wall; pinnacled buttresses in between. Ornate SW gable lavishly decorated by local sculptor Charles O'Connell (Mould 1991, 141): central breakfront topped by tower with belfry and small spire; central bluntly-pointed door ope flanked by pointed niches; central 1st-floor pointed window ope flanked by narrow pointed windows. Apse added to NE end. Numerous carvings decorate facade including inscribed stone which reads "This chapel was rebuilt by the Revd John Barry A.D. 1833 and Nicholas Leader who gave the site".
