Catherina McKiernan was born in Cornafean, County Cavan, on 30 November 1969. She became a celebrated Irish long-distance runner, winning the 1998 London Marathon and holding national records for the marathon and half marathon. Years later she returned to Cavan as a life coach for the county football team, completing a circle from village birthplace to national stage and back again.
