What is recorded here
Detached seven-bay three-storey country house, built c.1830, over basement. Now ruinous and standing to rear of Feartagar Castle. Rendered walls with paralled raised quoins of dressed limestone, heavy moulded limestone cornice, sills of tooled limestone. Remains of tetrastyle Ionic porch, columns lying across front steps.
Though this house was burnt, many of the walls of Castlegrove still stand to their full height. The cut stone is of very fine quality and it is possible to see the scale of the house and some of the architectural detail from fallen stones.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
