Williamstown Castle vanished before human memory, leaving only a ghost mark on a 1654-9 survey and no trace on later maps. The absence is the shape of the place: a fortress that stopped being visible to everyone at once. Whatever it guarded, it guarded so completely that even its own outline forgot how to exist.
