Spanish Island holds no stone castle, only a plateau where O'Driscoll walls may have stood before a 1537 attack. The grass keeps the claim alive while the sea took the proof. What is missing is not nothing; it is the shape of what the island stopped remembering.

In rough grazing, on a plateau to the N of Hackett's Cove on the E side of Spanish Island. According to Healy (1988, 214), this plateau is where a castle of the O'Driscolls, which was attacked in 1537, stood. There is now no evident trace of such a structure in this location.
