Caisleán Dhróilin may have stood on a limestone crest north-west of Shanbally Crossroads before its stones were taken for a nearby nineteenth-century limekiln. The castle has left no trace except that local story and the vanished rock, while the limekiln still stands as proof that something worth building existed there.

According to tradition, a castle named 'Caisleán Dhróilin' was located 'on the crest of a large limestone rock north-west of Shanbally Crossroads' (Healy 1988, 114). Healy suggests that stones from the castle were used in the construction of a nearby 19th-century limekiln (CO087-038----).
