What is recorded here
Down Survey mapped a castle at Russellstown around 1650, yet no ruin, field or footpath has answered that claim since. The town may have swallowed it, renamed it or never loved it enough to keep it visible. A castle can disappear into ordinary life, wearing a kitchen wall or a forgotten lane instead of stone.
A castle is recorded on Down Survey (1655-6) terrier of c. 1650 at Russellstown. It remains unlocated.
