Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Castle, unclassified in Roscolvin stood beside the River Lerr near the eastern townland edge when the Down Survey mapped the area in 1655-6. It may have been a residence, a watchpost or a boundary marker, but no clear function survives. The river and land edge are still visible, giving the castle a rare anchor in the changing landscape.
Recorded on the Down Survey (1655-6). Its position close to the E boundary of the townland is probably accurate as the adjacent townland boundary and River Lerr are accurately represented. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy
