What is recorded here

Prinetonne Castle vanished before human memory, leaving only a river name and a rendered house beside pasture. The Down Survey caught its shadow in 1655, but no wall, gate or chamber remains for a hand to touch. Painestown keeps the castle alive through water, grass and the risk of pointing at the wrong field.
Recorded on the Down Survey (1655-6) and named 'Prinetonne Castle'. May have been in the vicinity of Painestown House, a small, heavily rendered, two-storied, possible 19th century house with a small, single-storied extension on the W side, standing in level pasture, drained by the N-flowing, Painestown River immediately to the W. The precise location of the monument is unknown. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
Prinetonne Castle, recorded on the Down Survey (1655–6), was likely built by a local Anglo-Irish landholding family in the 17th century. Its importance lies in its historical presence as a documented structure in the Painestown area, reflecting early colonial settlement patterns in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
