What is recorded here
Shanacourt Castle vanished from County Limerick before human memory, leaving behind a gap where a building should stand. Its rooms may have held feast, fear or flight, but the earth kept the shape and people forgot the name. What is missing is not a failure of record, but a reminder that some places stop wanting to be found.
Exact location of Old Court or Shanacourt Castle, which is mentioned in 16th and 17th century sources (Westropp 1906-7, 218), is not known.
