What is recorded here
Mothel may have hidden a castle so complete it vanished from memory, leaving only a map mark and a gap where stone should stand. The absence does not diminish the place; it sharpens the question of what human hands built, enjoyed, abandoned or buried there.
A castle in ruins is marked on the Grand Jury Map of Co. Waterford at Mothel, but it is not located and not known from other sources.
