Castle shown along shore on Down Survey (1655-6) map (1652) but exact location not known. According to Healy (1988, 273) 'foundations of an old stone building' were found during the construction of a modern house in this vicinity. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992).
