Castle, unclassified in Greyabbey,silliothill (kildare Ed),tully West stands as a castle in County Kildare, Ireland. Thomas Burke of Cloncurry granted the castle or messuage of Silliat to James Butler in 1537, while James Butler received that grant from Thomas Burke of Cloncurry. The castle or messuage of Silliat belonged to James Butler after Thomas Burke of Cloncurry granted it to him.

According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 4, 437), in 1537 Thomas Burke of Cloncurry granted 'the castle or messuage of Silliat' to James Butler. The castle was described as ruinous in 1588, and again in 1602. Bradley et al. (op. cit.) suggest that the castle was associated with the deserted medieval settlement of Silliothill borough (KD022-032----). While the castle has not been located, Bradley et al. (op. cit.) suggest it may have stood in a very poorly preserved enclosure, a possible bivallate ringfort, that does survive. (KD0220-032001-). The Down Survey (1656) does show a narrow castle, probably a towerhouse, but in W part of the townland where no castle has been found. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 22-12-2011
