What is recorded here
Castle in Grenan resists identification because no visible ruin or exact site has emerged. It appears only in the Down Survey of 1654 to 1657, named inside the townland but withheld from modern certainty. That absence makes the castle less a building than a trap for memory: a place known enough to record, yet hidden enough to refuse recognition.
Unlocated castle within townland that is indicated on the Down Survey (1654-7) (NLI, MS 720).
