Grange Clear Castle vanished before human memory, leaving only a narrow earthwork on a gentle Kildare slope. Taylor’s 1783 map still claims the terrace as a castle, yet no wall, gate or chamber remains for a person to touch. The land may have swallowed a whole life of firelight, argument and ordinary days, but it now offers nothing but grass and uncertainty.

Depicted as a castle and named 'Grange Clear Ca.' on Taylor's 1783 Map of County Kildare. On a narrow, level terrace on a gentle E-facing pasture slope. There is no visible surface of a castle but there is an earthwork of a possible bawn (KD0013-021001-) there. In 2004, archaeological test-trenching (Licence No. 04E0368) in advance of the construction of a private dwelling house immediately to the W, and its associated driveway to the S, revealed no archaeological deposits (Purcell 2007, 197 (No. 823)). The precise location of this castle has not been identified and it is uncertain if this earthwork (KD013-021001-) is associated with the castle.
