Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

A roofless tower house stood in the northeast of Dunmurry East when the Down Survey measured the land in 1655-6, but it vanished before later mapping began. The castle left no local memory, no visible ruin, and no confirmed position, so it remains an unclassified ghost in County Kildare. It may have been a modest defensive tower, a abandoned household, or a surveying error, yet the absence makes it more intriguing than many documented castles.
A building, possibly a roofless tower house, is recorded on the Down Survey (1655-6) in the NE of Dunmurry East townland. Not recorded on the subsequent OS mapping and not known locally. It has not been located. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 14 February 2012
