What is recorded here
No castle is certain at Curracloe, though Lewis claimed one had recently been taken down. Adam Waller held 360 acres nearby during the Civil Survey, yet even that account leaves the castle absent. The sea, tide and forgetting have done what demolition does elsewhere: they have removed the possibility of proof.
According to Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 343) a castle at Curracloe had recently been taken down, but this is the only reference to a castle. According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) 360 acres at Corroughtow were owned by Adam Waller, a Protestant, but there is no mention of a castle (Simington 1953, 117).
