Castle tradition in Cuppanagh credits an O'Gara castle to a low stone platform beside a moated site. Grass and time have softened its edges, but stones still protrude through the surface and a rough facing remains visible at the edge. The castle may have stood as a small defensive house, a boundary marker, or a family seat for the O'Gara name. Whatever it was, it has been reduced to a ridge of memory in the field.

In the SE quadrant of a moated site (SL045-007002-). According to local tradition, a low irregular platform (c. 11m NE-SW; 8.5m NW-SE; H 0.8m) on the S side of the moated site, is the remains of an O'Gara castle. Though now sod-covered, the platform appears to be largely composed of stones. Remnants of a rough stone facing are evident at NNE and E, whilst elsewhere stones protrude randomly from the surface. Incorporated into the SW corner of the platform are remnants of a circular stone-lined feature (diam. 2m; H 0.6m), probably the remains of a limekiln. The remains of the unclassified castle in Cuppanagh are traditionally associated with the O'Gara family, likely dating to the medieval period. It is remembered as a local example of Gaelic Irish territorial strongholds in the region.
