Castlequarter still marks the lost site of Skirke castle, though no wall or trench remains for a visitor to touch. It stood a little east of the church and belonged to the O'Duigins or O'Deegans during the first half of the seventeenth century before its ruins were removed early in the nineteenth century. The quarter keeps the shape of what disappeared: a small castle, a local line, and a field changed until even its exact spot withdrew from sight.

Unlocated castle within townland that is described by Carrigan as 'In the Castlequarter of Skirke, a little to the east of the Church (LA021-01001-), stood Skirke castle, the ruins of which were removed early in the nineteenth century. It belonged to the O'Duigins or O'Deegans, during the first half of the seventeenth century' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 137). No visible surface remains.
