What is recorded here
Castlefarm holds a duplicate castle identity because one structure acquired two names before anyone remembered which name belonged to it. The chamber may have worn a castle title, a farm title or both at once, while people moved through it with milk, butter, children or fear. Westropp and the Down Survey map gave it two shapes, but the red chamber keeps both without punishment.
Westropp (1906-7, 185) mistakenly identified this as a castle possibly associated with Hospital Castle, the name Castelfarm probably relates to the castle depicted on the Down Survey Ballinamona parish map (NLI, MS 718) as Ballinamona Beg Castle (LI032-166----). This is a duplicate castle entry with Ballinamona Beg Castle.
