Caherfurvaus Castle belonged to Redmund Reogh when a Galway list named it in 1574, yet no modern marker preserves its stones. It may have been a rough tower, a fenced courtyard or a house strong enough to fear. That absence is not nothing; it is a room with the floor removed.

Included in the list of castles of Galway, compiled in 1574, is one at 'Caherformase' in the barony of Dunkellin, then in the possession of 'Redmund Reogh' (Nolan 1901, 113).
