What is recorded here
Castle, unclassified in Brownstown Great. No visible trace remains, though Taylor marked its ruins north of the crossroads in 1783. It vanished completely from later mapping and memory, leaving behind an empty space where a building should stand.
On his 1783 Map of County Kildare, Taylor shows a castle in ruins to the N of the present Brownstown Cross Roads. The castle is not recorded on any edition of the OS maps and no visible surface trace survives. The precise location of this castle has not been identified.
