What is recorded here
Ballyoskill holds a castle field beside its ringfort, though no wall or tower remains for anyone to touch. The land may have worn the castle away or people may have taken every stone for another purpose. What is left is a name repeated in local speech and a flat place where a building once stood.
According to O'Kelly (1969, reprint 1985, 32) in Ballyoskill there is, 'one rath [KK005-001----] and a castle site in the old castle field. There is no indication of a castle on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map or on the 1899 revision, nor on the OS Ortho or Digitalglobe aerial imagery. It would appear from O'Kelly's description that the castle was in the vicinity of the ringfort, but its precise location is unknown.
