What is recorded here
Down Survey cartographers marked a castle inside Ballymeelish during 1654-7, yet no stone or ditch has reappeared to confirm the line. The drawing suggests a building proud enough to warrant ink, but time or people removed it from the field. Whatever stood there, it resisted every later hand that tried to find it.
Unlocated castle within townland indicated on Down Survey (1654-7) map (NLI, MS 720).
