White Castle rose in Ballyknockan and Leighlinbridge when Gerald, fifth Earl of Kildare, built it in 1408. It has since disappeared from the visible land, leaving behind a hole in the local story rather than a ruin people can point at. What remains is the certainty that it existed and the frustration that no one can show where its walls stood.

Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 According to Lewis (1837, Vol II, 251) known as 'White Castle' and built in 1408 by Gerald, fifth Earl of Kildare. No further information. (Bradley 1989, 38). This castle is unlocated within the townlands of Ballyknockan and Leighlinbridge.
