Castle, unclassified in Ballycasheen, County Clare, Ireland. Ballycasheen Castle belonged to Teige, second son of Murrough O’Brien, 1st Earl of Thomond, under a June 1551 will. It may still hide inside Cahermacon’s broken bawn, waiting to be recognised rather than invented.

Breen and Ua Cróinín (2000, 5-9) noted that in the will of Murrough O’Brien, 1st Earl of Thomond, dated June 1551, the castle of Ballycasheen was left to his second son Teige. The precise location of the castle has not been identified. Breen and Ua Cróinín (ibid.) suggest that it may have been located in Cahermacon townland, within a possible bawn (CL016-144003-) where they have identified the remains of two possible late-medieval buildings (CL016-144001- and CL016-144002-). Built by the O'Brien family, rulers of Thomond, in the 16th century; it is remembered through a reference in the 1551 will of Murrough O’Brien, 1st Earl of Thomond, who left it to his son Teige, highlighting its significance within the family's territorial holdings.
