Beallabeanchere belonged to Thomas Ballagh in 1574, half a mile north of Corofin above the flood line where the Grange and Clare rivers meet. The castle has vanished without a visible trace, leaving only the house and the memory of water marking where it stood.

In existence in 1574 when 'Beallabeanchere' was in the possession of 'Thomas Ballagh' (Nolan 1901b, 118), According to Nolan (1901a, 40-1), it was situated 'half a mile north of Corofin close to Ballibanagher House and just above the old flood line of the Grange and Clare rivers which meet near the ancient site'. Ballybanagher House is marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map, but no visible surface trace of the castle was noted in its vicinity. Thomas Ballagh held Castle Ballybanagher in 1574; its location near Corofin suggests it was a local stronghold in west Clare during the late 16th century, a period of significant English involvement and conflict in the region.
