What is recorded here

Annagh Castle appeared in the early 17th-century Stafford Inquisition of County Mayo, yet no stones, ditch or field marker have joined that name since. It may have been a tower house, a timber stronghold or merely a legal fiction invented to make a border sound owned. The absence is the shape of the castle: a hole in the landscape where human arrogance or forgetfulness removed the rest.
