Adamstown Castle vanished before modern memory, leaving no stone, marker or even certain field behind it. In 1655 two decayed castles still stood in Adamstown and Gormanstown under Edmond Ffox, but by 1943 the site had become impossible to locate. The castle may have sunk into grass, been consumed by a farmyard, or simply never have existed beyond a ledger line. Limerick keeps its ghosts in absence as often as in stone.

The precise location of Adamstown Castle within the townland has not been identified. Castle site described in 1943 as following 'There is now no trace of this castle, nor could the site be located. Westropp erroneously puts it in the parish of Kilrush' (O'Kelly 1943, 170). Adamstown Castle described by Westropp (1906-7, 184) as following; '1583 Ballyhyward, between Gormanstown and Bagotstown (Peyton, 11), Ballyadam with Ballytanckards and Garriskullibine (Des. R., 33b). 1655 Adamstown decayed C[astle], Edm. Fox, of Bulgiden Fox (C.S., xxxi., p. 13). The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that Edmond Ffox of Bulgaden possessed in the townlands of Adamstown and Gormanstown, 'two decayed Castles [LI040-066003-] 12 Cabbins & a Mill Seat upon it' (Simington 1938, 102).
