Castle stood as a fortified tower house in Kildare during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Nugent's Castle appears in a 1684 rental inside Little Broadhooke, a street that may have occupied the Station Road end of Market Square. No visible trace remains, but the building likely shaped local defence and status before disappearing beneath later town life.

According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 204-5), there is documentary evidence for the presence of fortified townhouses in Kildare in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, including ‘Nugent's Castle’ which is referred to in a rental of 1684 as being in ‘Little Broadhooke’. That street has not been identified, but may have been located at the Station Road end of the Market Square, which was know as Nugent Street in the 19th century. No visible surface traces survive. Nugent's Castle, a tower house in Kildare, was built in the late 15th or early 16th century by the Nugent family, a prominent Gaelic Irish dynasty. It is remembered as an example of early modern defensive architecture and reflects the political and social structures of Gaelic Ireland during the Tudor period.
