Rosegreen holds a broken castle inside a large triple-ditched enclosure, its mound still broad enough to mark the room where stone once rose. Walls project north and west like forgotten ribs, and a narrow gap in one boundary may have been the doorway used by the people who lived there. The Civil Survey of 1654-56 already called it broken, so its downfall belonged to an earlier time and its rooms may have fallen before that ink was dried.

Within enclosure (TS069-038002-), concentrated mostly on the S side, with a series of walls projecting to N and W. An uneven mound (dims. 16m N-S; 22.4m E-W) of sod-covered stone likely represents the remains of castle masonry. There are some large sections of masonry at the base of the steep S side of the enclosure. Mound partially obscured by vegetation. Linear wall (Wth 2m; int H 0.2m; ext H 0.45m) extends (long axis c. N-S) (L 16m) to E of mound and turns (L5.5m) at right angle to W. A break (Wth 1m) in the wall near the W end may be a possible doorway. The wall turns (L 1.5m) to the NW where it adjoins another internal wall. Another wall (L 6m) extends (long-axis NW-SE) to the NW from the castle mound and turns W continuing (L 18m) to the inner enclosing wall of the main castle enclosure (TS069-038002-). Named on latest edition OS 6-inch map as 'Shancashlaun' and described in the Civil Survey 1654-56 as a 'broken castle' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 206). According to O'Flanagan (1930, vol. 3, 81), there are some fragmentary remains of masonry and traceable foundations enclosed in a large trivallate enclosure.
