What is recorded here

Owning may have contained more than one castle, and that is the trouble. A motte still stands in County Kilkenny, but no exact date, owner or room has survived to make it visible. The earth may have worn a tower, hidden a stair or swallowed the names of the people who first climbed it. What is known is that a castle belonged there, and what is lost is the life that made the castle worthy of building.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
