Castle Miles (in ruins) — Report the wrong picture

Castle Miles stands in ruins on a broad Waterford plateau, marked on maps since 1840 but reduced today to a moated bank and one stubborn stone wall. That short wall, no taller than a standing man, may have guarded a gateway or formed the last room of a vanished castle. It still protrudes from the earth like a broken tooth, waiting for someone to imagine the door it once controlled.

Located on a broad plateau. Described as Castle Miles on the 1840 and 1927 eds of the OS 6-inch map. A wall (L 4.5m E-W; T 1.25m; H 1.5m) on the inner face of the bank of moated site (WA037-021001-) at N, with a recess on the N side, may be the remains of a gateway or of a castle. Built in the 13th century, Castle Miles was held by the Miles family, after whom it is named. It is remembered as a medieval defensive structure reflecting the strategic importance of the area during the Anglo-Norman period.
