Ballinamona Castle stood as a circular tower house on flat ground behind a derelict farmhouse in County Tipperary. Edmond Dwyer owned the destroyed structure in 1640, while later memories described its round walls and several stories before cows occupied its base. The building vanished entirely from the surface, leaving only a hidden foundation beneath ordinary farmland.
On flat level ground in the farmyard behind a derelict single-storey farmhouse. In the Civil Survey (1654-6) this is described as 'one small destroyed castle repaireable' under the proprietorship in 1640 of 'Edmond Dwyer of Mores-towne Irish Papist' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 91). It is depicted on the 1st (1840-41) ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular building, but by the late 19th century all that survived was 'a little bit of wall which forms part of the out offices, attached to the residence' (Davis White 1892, 54). However, Davis White (1892, 54) recorded that in living memory of the then owner 'the Castle was several stories high, and that it was round … The under part had been used as a cow house in his younger days'. There is now no trace of the castle above ground but it is likely that it was a late 16th-century tower house, similar to other circular tower houses in the area.

Edmond Dwyer held Castle Ballinamona in 1640, and it was noted as a small, damaged but repairable castle in the 1654–56 Civil Survey. Its mention in post-Restoration land records highlights its role in the changing ownership and control of land during and after the Irish Confederate Wars.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
