Castle Dyke is an Iron Age hillfort inside Ugbrooke Park, where a broad inner rampart encloses an oval ridge and a separate outer bank curves southward like a guardrail drawn across the land. The earthworks are large enough to suggest crowds, ceremonies or conflict, yet they have no surviving name for the people who shaped them. They may have watched the Kate and Ugbrooke valleys, marked a boundary, or simply made the hill difficult to ignore.
