Edward I of England built Conwy Castle in the late 13th century, around 1283–1287, as part of his campaign to subdue Wales and consolidate English control. It is important as a prime example of medieval military architecture and a key component of Edward I’s iron ring of castles designed to suppress Welsh resistance.
