Carrigabrick Br

In pasture, over Blackwater River valley to E of Fermoy and immediately N of Carrigabrick Castle (14343). Five masonry piers, of limestone blocks with rock-faced finish, carry iron-plate bridge across flood plain on W side of valley to W bank of river. Bridge continues to E as long iron trellised bridge over river to top of limestone bluff on E bank of river. Known as the 'Duke's Line', as construction almost totally funded by the Duke of Lismore; built by Bagnell and opened in 1872, being worked as a continuation of service from Mallow by the Great Southern & Western Railway; taken over in 1893 by Waterford, Dungarvan & Lismore Railway, closed 1967 (Rowledge 1995, 91) and line removed.
