Carrickabraghy Castle

Carrickabraghy Castle is a small Donegal tower house perched on a sea-cliff promontory, probably built in the late 1500s and strengthened later with gun loops, corner towers and a surrounding wall. Its narrow chambers, splayed openings and cliff-edge defences suggest a fierce little fortress rather than a grand home. Phelemy Brasleigh O'Doherty was recorded there in 1600, while later Plantation records describe Lieutenant Hoan rebuilding a good bawn of lime and stone. Standing beside it, the castle feels less like a ruined relic than a stubborn sentinel still watching the Atlantic.
