Carreg-ar-y-rhos is a sea cliff composed of Silurian greywacke, formed around 440–420 million years ago through sedimentation and subsequent lithification in a deep marine environment. It is notable as part of the extensive volcanic and sedimentary rock formations of the North Wales Caledonides, which reflect ancient tectonic activity.
