Carraig na gColm

Carraig na gColm is a small islet in County Mayo, named for the columban birds that still crowd its edges. The name suggests a place where flight and stone collide, where the sea throws itself against a rock that will not move. Perhaps it marked a coastline, guided a boat, or warned a swimmer. More likely it simply existed, unusual and unafraid, while the land around it changed.
