Carn

Situated on top of a drumlin. It is depicted only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘carn’. It is a low subrectangular grass-covered cairn (dims 16m NW-SE; 7.5m NE-SW) defined by fairly steep sides (at NE: Wth 0.5m H 0.7m) on all sides except the SW where there is a wider than usual NW-SE field wall (Wth of base 1.6m), and there is a NE-SW field wall just to the N. No structural stones are visible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
