Cappanacully Grave Yd.

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Cappanacully Grave Yd. is a children's burial ground on a Galway rise where random stones mark graves beneath a thorn bush. The oval measures eleven by nine metres, small enough for a child's arms to span yet large enough for several lives. Field-clearance boulders scatter around the markers, suggesting adults worked the land while accepting that some losses belonged to the soil rather than memory.
On a rise in rolling pastureland. This children's burial ground consists of an unenclosed oval area (L 11m; Wth 9.3m) within which a number of randomly placed set stones mark graves. A thorn bush is growing in it and a number of field-clearance boulders are scattered within it.
