Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest and most significant Christian structures in England, founded in 597 AD by St. Augustine, the first Archbishop of Canterbury. It is a key site in the history of the English Church and was the scene of the murder of St. Thomas Becket in 1170, an event that had a major impact on medieval religious and political life.
