What is recorded here

Cairn, Ballyneillan, County Clare is a twenty-metre stone mound holding five mysterious hollows beside a working quarry. Road builders broke through it in 1874 to reveal a burial cist, yet a later writer denied the cist existed. That missing chamber still haunts the stones, leaving the ancient dead caught between memory and forgetfulness.

Situated outside the boundary of a very overgrown children’s burial ground (CL026-003002-), named as such on the 1920 OS 6-inch map. No gravemarkers are associated with the burial ground but there is a cairn of loose stones (diam. 5m; H 0.7m) just 3m outside the N boundary.
