Eochy's Cairn in County Mayo is a massive Neolithic mound, possibly the largest in Connacht, that has never been opened despite standing sixty-four metres above the land. Tradition claims it buries Eochaid mac Eirc after the mythical Battle of Moytura, giving the quiet stone a violent royal purpose. The unexcavated interior still hides whatever those first builders placed inside, waiting for someone brave enough to ask what death meant to them.

This record refers to a cairn uncovered in 1940 by a local man in an extensive bog in Carrowleagh townland (National Museum of Ireland topographical files). Details of the cairn and its exact location were not recorded and remain unknown. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 4 July 2018
